One day in April 2002, the managing editor of what was about to become The New York Sun, Ira Stoll, sat down with a reporter for the paper, Ben Smith, for an interview with New York's new mayor. When conversation turned to the proposed Second Avenue subway line, Mr. Stoll inquired whether the city might sell the subways to a private entrepreneur. The mayor, Michael Bloomberg, responded with the question, "What are you smoking?"
...Mr. Bloomberg had been skeptical at the start, but in 2004, he stopped by the offices of the Sun to proclaim April 16 "New York Sun Day" in New York City. Yesterday, he greeted the news of the paper's decision to cease publication with a statement that called the paper's writers "smart, thoughtful, provocative — and sometimes even courageous." Said the mayor: "In a City saturated with news coverage and commentary, The Sun shone brightly, though too briefly."

Conservative radio host Mark Levin fired back at Bill O’Reilly Thursday evening after O’Reilly delivered a blistering diatribe on his own radio program earlier in the day, attacking conservative talk radio hosts for opposing a $700 billion bailout for the financial industry and calling them “idiots,” “charlatans,” and “right-wing liars.”
“If you’re going to be an intelligent observer and commentator, whether on radio or TV, you need to take the time to educate yourself, if you’re not already educated, about all the issues that come before you each day,” said Levin. “You need to take the time to research them, and you have to call them as you see them. This is what I do each and every day.
"I had Gandalf's sword with me and I knighted a pair of children 'Sir Minority' and 'Dame Minority' and it went down very well. It is essential to talk to 12- and 13-year-olds because they absorb what's thrown at them, whether it be homophobia or tolerance - and we have to make sure it's positive stuff."
The mainstream media ruthlessly and endlessly repeat any McCain gaffes while ignoring Obama gaffes. You have to go to weird little Web sites to see all the stammering and stuttering that Obama needs before getting out a sentence fragment or two. But all you see on the networks is an eventually clear sentence from Obama. You don't see Obama's ludicrous gaffe that Iran is a tiny country and no threat to us. Nor his 57 American states gaffe. Nor his forgetting, if he ever knew, that Russia has a veto in the U.N. Nor his whining and puerile "come on" when he is being challenged. This is the kind of editing one would expect from Goebbels' disciples, not Cronkite's.
OH, you CARE about Palin and you're CONCERNED about Sexism? Give me a break. The reason she doesn't want to talk to the press is because you're a BUNCH OF LIARS! Anything she says or does is scrutinized, twisted and fed to the unsuspecting masses as 'analysis.'

Can a program that offers political commentary and constitutional scholarship by a stand-up comic be taken seriously? Apparently, ABC thinks so, which is why Whoopi Goldberg replaced Rosie O’Donnell on “The View.”
The left is still chortling over John McCain’s appearance on the September 12th edition of the feminist equivalent of “The Gong Show.” According to reports on Salon.com and The Daily Kos, the ladies of “The View” -- including Whoopi, Barbara Walters and Joy Behar -- skewered the GOP candidate.
Even with stiff competition from Ba-Ba and Joy, Whoopi was in a league of her own.
EXCEPT TV's weren't around then and FDR wasn't elected until 1932... I think Biden is showing himself to be a Major League dumbass... and don't expect Katie Couric, being a good member of the Main Stream Media, to call him on his BS or stupidity... or both.
To add insult to injury, Palin has also been told she will have to sit down for a grilling by Katie Couric, the CBS Evening News anchor who was honored in July by the National Organization for Women. The Congressional Host Committee of the Couric event, which included CBS as a “champion” sponsor, included Rep. Tammy Baldwin, the lesbian Democrat from Wisconsin. On September 16, not surprisingly, NOW endorsed the Obama-Biden ticket.
The liberal media are angry. Very, very angry. How do we know? Howard Kurtz, the Washington Post's chronicler of all things media, says so:
The media are getting mad. Whether it's the latest back-and-forth over attack ads, the silly lipstick flap or the continuing debate over Sarah and sexism, you can just feel the tension level rising several notches. Maybe it's a sense that this is crunch time, that the election is on the line, that the press is being manipulated (not that there's anything new about that).
Of course, politicians are always trying to manipulate the media. And the liberal media are always allowing themselves to be manipulated by liberal politicians. So why the foot-stamping snit by liberal journalists? Not because "the press is being manipulated." Rather, because the American people are resisting manipulation by the media.

For months, people around the country have been noticing the always flattering photos of Barack Obama, and, by contrast, pictures that make John McCain either look older than what he is, or sickly...or even worse.
On Friday, the photography website PDNPulse published a virtual exposé about a professional photographer that admitted taking an intentionally diabolical looking picture of McCain that she hoped would be on the cover of October's Atlantic magazine
Hubris was indeed revealed in the ABC interview with Sarah Palin, and it wasn't coming from Sarah Palin, but Charlie Gibson. But there was more than Charlie's sneering condescending tone, looking down over the rim of his glasses like some snobby intellectual that bothered me. Twisting her words into a fabrication feeding the fear of theocracy was utterly insulting. It was especially insulting to claim that these were her "exact words" after being challenged on it. Probably the most telling moment for the Democrat ambush of Republicans at their recent St. Paul, Minnesota convention came after a delegate had answered a question from Katie Couric about Sarah Palin’s qualifications to be vice-president. To which interviewer/Democrat Couric—low-rated CBS anchor—responded that well, those were “Republican talking points,” and that she was sure some would have other opinions.
“No, those are not talking points. Those are facts,” the delegate shot back. (Note: Above reference to “interviewer/Democrat was not a Freudian slip. I’m tired of granting these liberals their delusions of “objective” reportage)
Wall Street Journal Editorial Page Editor Paul Gigot put the blame firmly on the liberal establishment in a July 23, 2008 op-ed. “Fan and Fred also couldn't prosper for as long as they have without the support of the political left... This includes Mr. [Rep. Barney] Frank and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) on Capitol Hill, as well as Mr.[Paul] Krugman and the Washington Post's Steven Pearlstein in the press.”

Politico - Over the past few years, perhaps no film controversy has inspired more outrage from conservatives than the Walt Disney Companys handling of the ambitious 2006 miniseries The Path to 9/11. In the wake of Michael Moores 2004 anti-Bush documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 and the 2003 CBS biopic The Reagans, the Disney censorship fiasco has been a frequent bone of contention on right-wing blogs, AM talk radio and other media outlets. In addition to making cuts in its ABC-TV telefilm after complaints from political forces, the company also shelved plans for a subsequent DVD release.
Now the imbroglio has been revived for a direct-to-video documentary called "Blocking 'The Path to 9/11'," produced by right-wing rabble-rouser David Bossie and directed by former radio host John Ziegler. On its surface, the new video is a fascinating piece of behind-the-scenes investigative work. But, like the original telefilm and its quashing by the Clinton camp, it is not without its own political intrigue. Indeed, "Blocking 'The Path to 9/11'" raises even more questions and adds its own set of disconnected dots to this broadcasting dilemma.
On March 6, 2007, New York Times columnist Nicholas D. Kristof published an article entitled ''Obama: Man of the World.'' In it, Kristof addressed Barack Obama's upbringing, including his early life in Jakarta when he ''got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school.'' For some reason, the link to this piece doesn't work anymore.
The announcement has since been made that Governor Palin will sit down with ABC’s Charles Gibson for an interview this week. Democrats will be counting on Gibson to spring a trap on the Republican vice-presidential candidate and make her look like an ignorant buffoon on some issue or another...But nobody should underestimate Palin, a journalist herself before she went into politics. She should be able to handle any barbs sent her way. More than most, she should understand the journalism “profession” and its liberal bias.

Just moments after MSNBC aired the Republican convention's video tribute to victims of 9/11, shown at about 8:40pm EDT Thursday night (September 4), Keith Olbermann offered this angry rebuke of his own network for doing so (CNN and PBS also aired it):

'Senator Obama, is it true you spent several years of your life in an Islamic school? If so, why do you feel compelled to lie about that?'

Over half of U.S. voters (51%) think reporters are trying to hurt Sarah Palin with their news coverage, and 24% say those stories make them more likely to vote for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in November. Thirty-nine percent (39%) also believe the GOP vice presidential nominee has better experience to be president of the United States than Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
NBC political director Chuck Todd, weighing in shortly after Sarah Palin’s fiery speech before the Republican faithful, declared: “Conservatives have found their Obama.”...Chris Matthews called Palin a “torpedo aimed directly at the ship” of the Democrats, while adding that the comparison to Hillary Rodham Clinton simply doesn’t work. “At no time, during her entire presentation, did I think of Hillary Clinton”
Time's Mark Halperin has posted an advance copy of the cover of US Weekly magazine, the tabloid published by Rolling Stone's Jann Wenner. That cover shows a smiling Sarah Palin, holding her youngest son Trig. The screaming headline: "Babies, Lies and Scandal: John McCain's Vice President." Wenner has contributed $5300 to Obama's campaign since 2007. The cover was sent to select news organizations by Mark Neschis, the head of corporate communications for Wenner Media

I am wondering how Drew would like it if we went through his background and talked about all the strip bars where he hung out in his younger days or perhaps some of the strippers he may have tried to date.
