The Korean War commenced on June 25, 1950. On that day, with the information at hand, Gen. Douglas MacArthur said, "This is probably only a reconnaissance in force. If those asses back in Washington only will not hobble me, I can handle it with one arm tied behind my back." But it was soon obvious that the move was much more an all-out attempt to take over the entire country than a re-con operation. How could all those CIA and military experts have missed their mark so badly?

A court martial on Wednesday acquitted a US Marine for his role in the deaths of 24 civilians in Haditha in Iraq in 2005, the sixth man to be exonerated in the affair, a military official said.
Lieutenant Andrew Grayson, 27, was declared "not guilty on all charges" by a jury, said a spokesman for the Camp Pendleton military base in southern California where the hearing started on May 28.

Megan Bean admits she was a little naive to think the Iraq war was all about peacekeeping.
"We were over there to maintain the peace and we were trying to hand it over to the Iraqis," said the 19-year-old from Titusville, Penn., who joined the U.S. Navy out of high school with husband Chris Bean, 19...The couple fled for uncertain amnesty in Canada last month when they learned Chris would be involuntarily sent on a combat mission to Iraq to take part in what they came to believe was an unjust war.
"You don't sign up for (the U.S. Navy) to see a bunch of people kill for no reason," Megan said.
