New research supports growing concerns that herpes plays a role in the development of Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia. The latest work, announced today, shows a link between a gene and herpes simplex 1, or HSV. The form of the ApoE gene called ApoE-4 is the leading known risk factor for Alzheimer’s. And HSV is the form of herpes that causes cold sores around the mouth. More than 80 percent of Americans are infected with HSV.

The pictures posted on MySpace.com looked like the latest installment of "Girls Gone Wild." In them, cheerleaders from McKinney North High School in Texas exhibited all variety of bawdy behavior. One shot showed a bikini-clad girl sharing a bottle of booze with a friend. Another featured a cheerleader and several other girls in risqué poses offering glimpses of their panties.

Iran will possess nuclear weapons unless military action is taken against it, and Israel would be capable of carrying out such an attack, a respected Israeli think tank said Tuesday. "Time is working in Iran's favor, and barring military action, Iran's possession of nuclear weapons is only a matter of time," Tel Aviv University's Institute for National Security Studies said in a statement distributed at a news conference where it released its annual assessment of the Middle East's strategic balance.

Company executives in China were the big winners of last year's soaring stock market, with the top 50 executives worth nearly 40 billion yuan (5.1 billion dollars), according to state media.
