Other students tried to attack Darwish's credibility, focusing on her lack of a formal doctoral degree. Repeatedly, students criticized Darwish for not being a "scholar of Islam" or for not having the paper credentials they deemed indispensable for the formation of a valid opinion. I suppose that Darwish's having lived in Egypt for 30 years, where she received an extensive education in the despicability of the Americans and the Jews, was a trivial detail. Ditto to the fact that the Israeli Defense Forces killed her father in a targeted assassination. She didn't have a Ph.D., so she knew nothing.

"This is a fatal blow to Iranian intelligence," said the source, explaining that Asgari knows sensitive information about Iran's nuclear and military projects. Iran called tens of its Revolutionary Guard agents working at embassies and cultural centers in Arab and European countries back to Tehran out of fear that Asgari might disclose secret information about their identities, according to the analyst.

Millions of dollars in U.S. foreign aid have been given in the past several years to two Palestinian universities -- one of them controlled by Hamas -- that have participated in the advocacy, support or glorification of terrorism.
The funding -- principally in scholarships to individual students -- is being eyed by several members of Congress and their aides, who say it may violate U.S. law.

Snatching war out of the jaws of peace

…unlike the Americans, for whom the distant future is bounded by the next presidential election, Russia thinks a generation ahead, to the year 2040 or 2050 when Russia will have a Muslim majority. Unlike the senescent Europeans, Islamification is something Russia never will tolerate. The danger of radicalizing the Muslim populations of Russia vastly outweighs the potential benefits to Russia of a spike in oil prices, particularly given that the present level of oil prices puts Russia's finances in superb condition.
Russia and Saudi Arabia, I observed on February 21, have a common interest in suppressing conflict in the Persian Gulf, and for precisely the same reason. Both are exposed to political contagion from a US attack on Iran.

Lancet Report Disputed

Together with Professor Hans Rosling and Dr Johan Von Schreeb at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Dr Garfield wrote to The Lancet to insist there must be a “substantial reporting error” because Burnham et al suggest that child deaths had dropped by two thirds since the invasion. The idea that war prevents children dying, Dr Garfield implies, points to something amiss.

Commentary: Dems Romancing Muslim Voters
by

on Tue 06 Mar 2007 04:00 AM EST

Pelosi: "Since September 11th, many Muslim Americans have been subjected to searches at airports and other locations based upon their religion and national origin, without any credible information linking individuals to criminal conduct. Racial and religious profiling is fundamentally un-American and we must make it illegal."
What does that mean?
It means, if Pelosi gets her way, airport screeners will think twice about searching a Muslim, an Arab, an Arab-American or anyone who might look like one of the above. Even a random search upon one of these members of a newly protected class could result in a lawsuit, a suspension, a firing or a fine.
Won't it be better to just look the other way – to screen only the little old ladies and pregnant moms from the suburbs? After all, it will still give the appearance of airline security – and that's what really counts, right?
It hasn't gone unnoticed, however, that Pelosi's little plan to ban the application of common sense in airport security screening coincides with her own plan for bigger, more secure accommodations on military aircraft for her coast-to-coast jaunts, as well as those by her own loved ones and members of her staff.

Hispanic children make up about a third of the estimated 9,800 children in Arizona's foster-care system, according to the state's most recent numbers. The state does not track the ethnicity of licensed foster parents, but social service agencies said the percentage of licensed foster families who are Hispanic is very low, and they struggle to match Hispanic children with Hispanic families.
