The Pussification Of The Western Male
by

(From blog The Other Side of Kim du Toit. November 2003)
I am aware of the fury that this statement is going to arouse, and I don’t care a fig.
What I care about is the fact that since the beginning of the twentieth century, there has been a concerted campaign to denigrate men, to reduce them to figures of fun, and to render them impotent, figuratively speaking.

Debate over a bill to revamp Florida's subsidized health insurance program for children flared Wednesday over whether it should be available to the children of illegal immigrants.
Overwhelmingly - and somewhat surprisingly - the House answered yes, it should.
While a large number in the Republican-dominated House say they don't favor providing government services for undocumented immigrants, many said children shouldn't have to answer for their parents' crime of coming to the United States illegally.

Islam’s apologists completely miss the point
by

While Ramadan and other apologists can pontificate all they want about “true” Islam, the fact remains: There are countless and nameless others who are so convinced that Islam extols not just terrorism (see Koran 8:12 or 8:57 for an idea of where they get this notion), but suicide-attacks — that is, “martyrdom-operations,” which radicals believe lead directly to paradise — that without a second thought they happily sacrifice their own lives.

Citing the case of imprisoned former agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean among other complaints, all 100 top leaders of the National Border Patrol Council have endorsed a no-confidence resolution against Chief David V. Aguilar.
The union, which represents 11,000 of the U.S. Border Patrol's nonsupervisory field agents, pointed to Aguilar's willingness to believe the "perjured allegations" of criminal aliens over his own agents, in a statement issued today, first reported by the Washington Times

Tie The Noose, Simon

What we have here is Vietnam redux, which, for the Party Of Jane Fonda, is about what can be expected.
(...this reference is to the fact that towards the end of the Vietnam War, the Democrat-controlled Congress defunded the war effort, which led to the Communist takeover in Vietnam and the deaths of over a million South Vietnamese. If anyone thinks that there would be a different outcome in Iraq were we to pull out according to their “timetable”, I have the Brooklyn Bridge Sales Co. on Line 2 for you.)

by

on Fri 27 Apr 2007 08:43 AM EDT

The US Army hopes, within a few years, to deploy a plasma shield – a machine that generates a protective screen of dazzling mid-air explosions – to stun and disorient an enemy.
The device uses a technology known as dynamic pulse detonation (DPD). A short but intense laser pulse creates a ball of plasma, and a second laser pulse generates a supersonic shockwave with the plasma to generate a bright flash and a loud bang.

Venus: An Interplanetary Garbage Dump?
by

on Fri 27 Apr 2007 07:56 AM EDT

Venus may again regain its spot light in our solar system, although not as a potential colony world full of happy residents. With surface temperatures approaching 482 degrees Celsius (or 900 degrees Fahrenheit), an atmospheric pressure 92 times greater than that of Earths and sulfuric acid covering this boiling world, Venus could easily serve as an interplanetary garbage dump for the inner solar system.

Why Artificial Intelligence Could Destroy Us All
by

Why is AI dangerous?
To put it in a single sentence, I’d say that it’s because only a minority of cognitively possible goal sets place a high priority on the continued survival of human beings and the structures we value.
Another reason is that we can’t specify what we value in enough mathematical detail to transfer it to a new species without a lot of requisite hassle.
