If the Senate released a major study on Friday with information suggesting that a key Republican might have committed perjury, would the media report it? Probably every hour on the hour, with front-page headlines Saturday morning, correct? Well, the Senate issued a lengthy analysis on pre-Iraq war intelligence Friday, and in it was information contradicting Valerie Plame Wilson’s sworn testimony before the House in March.

Former Center eighth-grade teacher Janet Susan Gallager Parker, 26, surrendered to Shelby County authorities Wednesday, after school officials discovered photographs of the woman, partially-nude and draped in a rebel flag, on a student's cell phone. Those photos eventually led to 23 warrants for her arrest on charges ranging from sexual performance and sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography.

Notwithstanding the slight coverage of this story by CNN, Fox News and USA Today, virtually every element surrounding this story is an indictment on the increasingly irrelevant Fourth Estate. The public was first made aware of this story and given access to the cartoon images of the torture manual by The Smoking Gun. That report was then linked to by the nemesis of the old media, the Drudge Report, and then picked up by most of the major conservative blogs (including your beloved Saloon) and publications. But virtually no one would have known the story existed if we had to rely on the media establishment.
