Still think we live in a democracy? Senate oligarchs thumb noses at three quarters of all Americans, passes cloture vote on shamnesty

The “comprehensive
immigration” shamnesty is closer to passing through the Senate thanks to 16
Republicans who switched their votes from nay to yea since the last cloture
vote. That doesn’t mean it’s the law of the land, or even that it’s out of the
Senate yet, but it’s a good indicator that the Senate is listening not to the
75% of Americans who oppose the bill, but to the 25% who support it.

The biggest question in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination is whether or not former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson can sustain his warm-up act once he becomes an actual candidate.

IRANIAN forces are being choppered over the Iraqi border to bomb Our Boys, intelligence chiefs say. Military experts claim this worrying move means we are at WAR with Iran in all but name.
When do you get bipartisonship out of the legislature? When they are ganging up to screw the electorate.

They look so happy, don't they? In their joint appearance on "Fox News Sunday," Sens. Trent Lott and Dianne Feinstein unwittingly gave a seminar on the corrupting influence of governmental power, the "bipartisanship is a virtue" myth and the urgent need for term limits. During their interview, which was billed as a "rematch" but more closely resembled a love fest, the senators seemed to agree with each other way more than they disagreed -- and this from legislators reputed to be ideological opposites.

It's not the first time the Polish weekly Wprost has gotten in trouble in Germany. This week, the cover depicts Chancellor Angela Merkel breast-feeding the Kaczynski twins. But it could have been worse, the editor-in-chief points out. At least they used a 21-year-old model.

Putnam’s study reveals that immigration and diversity not only reduce social capital between ethnic groups, but also within the groups themselves. Trust, even for members of one’s own race, is lower, altruism and community cooperation rarer, friendships fewer. The problem isn’t ethnic conflict or troubled racial relations, but withdrawal and isolation. Putnam writes: “In colloquial language, people living in ethnically diverse settings appear to ‘hunker down’—that is, to pull in like a turtle.” |
