Bad weather was good for Alaska glaciers
by
Riley Jones
on Tue 14 Oct 2008 09:58 PM EDT
Two hundred years of glacial shrinkage in Alaska, and then came the winter and summer of 2007-2008. Unusually large amounts of winter snow were followed by unusually chill temperatures in June, July and August.
(Snappy salute to General Disarray)

Judge orders halt to removal of voters
by

on Tue 14 Oct 2008 02:51 PM EDT
A federal judge in Detroit ordered state elections officials Monday to halt one method of removing people from Michigan's voting rolls. The judge found that a second method the state uses to purge voters also was illegal, but declined to take immediate action on that practice. In a ruling hailed by the American Civil Liberties Union, U.S. District Judge Stephen Murphy III told state officials to immediately halt the practice of striking from voter rolls newly registered voters whose registration cards are returned as undeliverable by the post office

More ACORN Fraud Exposed: ACORN Whistleblowers
by
Roland, the Gunslinger
on Tue 14 Oct 2008 02:34 PM EDT
The ACORN Housing Corp. (AHC), an ACORN affiliate, receives more than 40 percent of its funding from government sources, ostensibly to promote affordable housing to low- and middle-income families.
But according to CRL, internal documents obtained from whistleblowers suggest that ACORN has failed to maintain the proper distinction between its tax-exempt housing work and its aggressive political activities.

Shari’a Law Called ‘Racist, Backward’ at Meeting of Ex-Muslims

on Tue 14 Oct 2008 02:25 PM EDT
Sweeping legal challenges must be made against the creeping introduction of Islamic law (shari’a) in the United Kingdom, the head of a new body of former Muslims said here Friday...In Britain, Muslims increasingly and controversially have turned to religious courts to decide civil matters under religious law.
While most shari’a courts have no binding legal authority, a growing network of arbitration panels applying Islamic law have been set up around Britain since 2007, and their decisions can be enforced by regular British courts.

UPDATED: Obama Sued Citibank Under CRA to Force it to Make Bad Loans
by
Roland, the Gunslinger
on Tue 14 Oct 2008 02:18 PM EDT
Do you remember how we told you that the Democrats and groups associated with them leaned on banks and even sued to get them to make bad loans under the Community Reinvestment Act which was a factor in causing the economic crisis (see HERE ) … well look at what some fellow bloggers have dug up while researching Obama’s legal career. Looks like a typical ACORN lawsuit to get banks to hand out bad loans.
In these lawsuits, ACORN makes a bogus claim of Redlining (denying poor people loans because of their ethnic heritage). They protest and get the local media to raise a big stink. This stink means that the bank faces thousands of people closing their accounts and get local politicians to lobby to stop the bank from doing some future business, expansions and mergers. If the bank goes to court, they will win, but the damage is already done because who is going to launch a big campaign to get the bank’s reputation back?

VDH: Jumping Ship...
by

This is becoming a very strange campaign.
On CNN last evening both David Gergen and Ed Rollins echoed the current mantra that the "old" noble McCain is gone-and a "new" nastier one has emerged, largely because of his attacks on Ayers, perhaps his planned future ads on Wright, and a few unhinged people shouting at his campaign stops.
Recently Christopher Buckley endorsed Obama, likewise lamenting the loss of the old noble McCain. New York Times columnist David Brooks dubbed Palin a "cancer," and he suggested that Obama's instant recall of Niehbuhr sent a tingle up his leg as Obama once did to Chris Matthews as well.

Krugman’s Posthumous Nobel
by
Roland, the Gunslinger
on Tue 14 Oct 2008 01:42 PM EDT
Prior to 2008 the Nobel Prize had never been awarded posthumously. So great minds such as John Maynard Keynes and Fischer Black never received the coveted award. But all that has changed. This year, the prize for economics is going to Paul Krugman, an economist who died a decade ago.
To clarify, the person named Paul Krugman, the living and breathing man who will accept the Nobel in Stockholm this December, is merely a public intellectual — a person operating in the same domain as, say, Oprah Winfrey

Palin helps expose Pro-Abortion Obama
by
Riley Jones
on Tue 14 Oct 2008 12:47 PM EDT
"I listened when he defended his unconditional support for unlimited abortions. He said that a woman shouldn’t have to be – quote – “punished with a baby.” He said that right here in Johnstown –“punished with a baby” – and it’s about time we called him on it. The more I hear from Senator Obama, the more I understand why he is so vague and evasive on the subject. Americans need to see his record for what it is. It’s not negative or mean-spirited to talk about his record. Whatever party you belong to, there are facts you need to know.
Senator Obama has voted against bills to end partial-birth abortion. In the Illinois Senate, a bipartisan majority passed legislation against that practice. Senator Obama opposed that bill. He voted against it in committee, and voted “present” on the Senate floor. In that legislature, “present” is how you vote when you’re against something, but don’t want to be held to account."

Democratic backer sends message by showing McCain, in KKK robe, chasing Obama
by
Riley Jones
on Tue 14 Oct 2008 12:18 PM EDT
From the Article: "The Obama figure looks like he is running, and the McCain likeness is dressed in the hooded robe of the Ku Klux Klan and is carrying a baseball bat.
Havens is quick to point out he is a liberal and a big supporter of Obama, and that the scene is meant to provoke thought about the way he believes Obama has been unfairly treated by the McCain campaign."
Gee... I wonder how people would react if someone did a Halloween display of Obama eating watermellon and fried chicken? And said it was for 'shock value.'

The most important change would occur in the Middle East, where "decades of putting Israel's interests first" would end.
Jackson believes that, although "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House.

Almost a year after two teenage girls were found dead — allegedly executed by their father — in the back seat of a taxicab in Texas, the FBI is saying for the first time that the case may have been an "honor killing" — and the bureau is angering Muslim groups by calling it that.
