NY Times: This morning, a Boston-born performance artist, Yazmany Arboleda, tried to set up a provocative art exhibition in a vacant storefront on West 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan with the title, “The Assassination of Hillary Clinton/The Assassination of Barack Obama,” in neatly stenciled letters on the plate glass windows at street level. By 9:30 a.m., New York City police detectives and Secret Service agents had shut down the exhibition, and building workers quickly covered over the inflammatory title with large sheets of brown paper and blue masking tape. (See "Related Links" for more images from each of the exhibits.) Art? ok, its art. But talking about the assassination of political candidates is illegal and I would guess everyone is touchy when the words 'Obama' and 'assassination' appear in the same sentence these days. Anyway, the attached video is captivating in a morbid way, vulgar and completely unsafe for work.- Riley Article from the New York Times>>>

"A key constituency for Obama was Hyde Park, where Farrakhan lives. To be successful politically in that area, you need to be involved with Farrakhan, since he's a strong power in the district," said the former insider. The former insider identified early employees of Obama as Nation of Islam members, including Jennifer Mason, who still works in Obama's Chicago Senate office as director of constituency services – a key community liaison position. Also, Cynthia K. Miller, whom the former insider identified as a Nation of Islam activist, served Obama in his early state Senate days and later as treasurer for his U.S. senatorial campaign. More>>>

Of all that has been written about the play of things in Iraq, nothing that I have seen approximates the truth of what our ambassador to Baghdad, Ryan Crocker, recently said of this war: "In the end, how we leave and what we leave behind will be more important than how we came." More>>>

If you want to know how Kobe Bryant and the Lakers got here -- not to the 2008 NBA Finals, but here, to this harmonious place after all the turmoil -- think back to biology class, or those old nature shows. Remember symbiosis, two different organisms that come together for a mutually beneficial partnership? Like the clown fish and the sea anemone. The clown fish protects the anemone from other fish that would eat it, while the anemone's stinging tentacles keep the clown fish's predators away. It's similar to that. Only Kobe is so complex that he's really created his own ecosystem, a web of interdependency. More>>>

I've often heard it said that one of the biggest problems with the GOP today is its association with "fundies", a pejorative term used to describe and belittle religious believers, particularly Christian believers. Sadly, I hear this view expressed not only from supposedly diversity-loving liberals, but also from some of my own conservative friends. In my view, it isn't fair or accurate to blame the shortcomings of a floundering political party that forgot its own principles, on one group whose primary interest in the political process is first and foremost to protect and defend religious liberty, a right guaranteed in the First Amendment. That brings us to this commentary, written by Alan J. Reinach, an interesting point of view concerning the direct effect to religious liberty posed by the California Supreme Court's recent ruling giving gays the right to marry... - Roland More>>>

After enormous pressure from those comparing Hagee to Sen. Obama’s pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, John McCain rejected Hagee’s endorsement, stating that Hagee’s views as expressed in the years-old sermon being distributed on the Web are "crazy." McCain also said, "Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them." Hagee was not praising Hitler the monster, he was simply offering the fundamentalist opinion that Hitler was used by God to cause the creation of a Jewish state to which the Jews of the world would return.
