View Article  Dems to Lieberman: GOP Convention ‘Last Straw’

According to The New York Times, Lieberman's Democratic colleagues are upset over his openly campaigning and traveling with the senator from Arizona during this election season and are fuming over his refusal to tone down his rhetoric against Obama. Some in his party are advising him that speaking to the GOP convention in September will be the last straw that breaks the camel’s back.

View Article  Conservatives Protest Obama’s Global AIDS Bill

In another sign of the leftward drift of the national Republican Party, only 24 Republican senators voted on Tuesday for an amendment to the global AIDS bill to prohibit AIDS funds from being used to pay for forced abortions and sterilizations in Communist China. The $50 billion legislation, which is still being debated on the Senate floor, has the support of Senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama, as well as organizations associated with his financial backer, billionaire leftist George Soros.

There is a strong possibility that Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential candidate and original sponsor of the legislation, could also vote for it...

View Article  Funny business at Fannie Mae: how'd those Clintonites get so rich?

ON May 23, as a jury in Houston deliberated the case against top Enron executives Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling, a little-known regulatory agency in Washington, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO), released a study with the dryly bureaucratic title "Report of the Special Examination of Fannie Mae." The document received far less attention than the news from Enron, but its conclusions were stunning. In meticulous detail, it outlined a culture of corruption at the Federal National Mortgage Association--better known as Fannie Mae--that rivals the most serious corporate scandals in recent years. In this case, however, the main players are Washington insiders--some of them prominent veterans of the Clinton administration--and the scandal's effects could ripple through Congress for years.

Imagine a society where simply speaking out of turn or saying the "wrong thing" was openly discussed as a crime against humanity, and where sceptics or deniers of the truth were publicly labelled "criminals", hauled before the press and accused of endangering humanity with their grotesque untruths.

Imagine a society where even some liberals demanded severe restrictions on freedom of movement; where people campaigned for travelling overseas to be made prohibitively expensive in order to force people to stay at home;

View Article  Not in My Backyard, Say an Increasing Number of Germans

The planned construction of over 180 mosques in Germany is mobilizing right-wing xenophobes but also an increasing number of leftist critics. They fear the Muslim places of worship will facilitate the establishment of a completely parallel society. The issue at hand wasn't the construction of a missile base or a new nuclear power plant. Yet the media reported "turmoil" and an "enraged" audience in a school auditorium in Ehrenfeld, a district of the German city of Cologne

Well, no bias in that opening paragraph, nope... - Roland

View Article  Obama: Teachers, not parents, most important factor in your child's achievement

Real change is finally giving our kids everything they need to have a fighting chance in today’s world. That begins with recognizing that the single most important factor in determining a child’s achievement is not the color of their skin or where they come from; it’s not who their parents are or how much money they have. It’s who their teacher is. It’s the paraprofessionals and support staff and all of you in this room.

Democrat Barack Obama warned Wednesday about the danger of "fighting the last war" as he pledged to focus on emerging nuclear, biological and cyber threats if elected president.

Two goals of his administration would be to secure all loose nuclear material during his first term and to rid the world of nuclear weapons, Obama told an audience before a roundtable discussion at Purdue University.

This is a dangerous idea. Not because it looks unstable or poorly constructed, but because its utility is too seductive.

Once the parent realizes how freeing this is, it will never stop with bathroom breaks. Want to vacuum? Slap that squirming bundle of modern art up on a closet door for a few minutes! Not enough room for the groceries and the child safety seat in the car? Use those hooks on the bumper and make an impromptu side car!

The loss of Tony Snow, the former White House Press Secretary to President George W. Bush and, previously, a prominent Fox News anchor, is in many ways the most hurtful loss of them all. Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005, Snow died this morning at age 53. Unlike Buckley and Helms, who died octogenerians, one can only imagine what great contributions Snow may have made had he not been taken from us so early. Yet, in his short 53 years, Snow also was an historically consequential and impactful conservative force in our nation. What were Snow's contributions to modern conservatism?

The only thing that was missing at the convention of the National Council of La Raza was his wearing a Mexican flag lapel pin
