View Article  Global COOLING (Yes, you read that correctly)

The record-setting surface of the sun. A full month has gone by without a single spot Source: Solar and Heliospheric Observatory

In the past 1000 years, three previous such events -- the Dalton, Maunder, and Spörer Minimums, have all led to rapid cooling. One was large enough to be called a "mini ice age". For a society dependent on agriculture, cold is more damaging than heat. The growing season shortens, yields drop, and the occurrence of crop-destroying frosts increases.

Thanks, Steve

View Article  Breaking: Top Hillary Backer Defects to McCain

John Coale — a top backer of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy — has endorsed the McCain/Palin ticket because, he told Newsweek in an exclusive interview, “Obama is not who he says he is.”

John Coale, a prominent Washington lawyer, husband of Fox TV host Greta Van Susteren and a supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, announced today that he was supporting John McCain for president.

View Article  Obama on Palin Attacks: "Back off these kinds of stories."
"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics."

I believe him because this sort of thing builds a tremendous amount of sympathy for Sarah Palin and her family and Obama knows it. Maybe Barack isn't a vindictive, amoral jerk but plenty of his supporters are angry little losers, busy posting slanderous, vile missives on one forum or another.

The attacks on Palin's family, which remind me greatly of what Clarence Thomas was subjected to in his confirmation hearings, are pure sleaze; check out DailyKOS and Fark.com if you need proof.

View Article  NB: John Kerry: Rush Limbaugh Forced McCain to Pick Palin

An angry Senator John Kerry is also an entertaining John Kerry. And on ABC's This Week yesterday, Kerry provided us with a lot of comedy entertainment including his assertion that John McCain was forced to pick Sarah Palin as his running mate by Rush Limbaugh and "the rightwing." There are a lot of other comedy nuggets in this interview conducted by This Week host George Stephanopoulos who fails to challenge Kerry on most of his absurdities...

Just asking, but with everyone focused on other news today, is the McCain camp trying to dump a lot of negative Palin news? Here's an exclusive from the Christian Broadcasting Network's David Brody: "Sources close to Sarah Palin tell The Brody File that the husband of the GOP Vice-presidential choice, Todd Palin, was arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of alcohol back in 1986. He was 22 years old at the time.

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was quoted Monday as telling senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran. In the unsourced report, Army Radio also quoted Biden as saying that he opposed "opening a additional military and diplomatic front." Biden, chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has long been considered strongly pro-Israel.

View Article  NB: Olbermann Pulled From Republican Convention Coverage

As Hurricane Gustav wreaks havoc on New Orleans as well as the schedule of the Republican National Convention, right-thinking Americans awoke to some good news Monday: MSNBC's Keith Olbermann will not be covering the festivities in Minneapolis-St. Paul, at least for the time being. Apparently, Olbermann has been sent to New York to cover the hurricane.

View Article  Yeah, About that 'Experience' thing...

Only a fool would question Sarah Palin's experience as a basis for her readiness to be Vice-President, especially as compared to Barack Obama's experience as a basis for his readiness to be President. Never has such a scurrilous set of accusations been less founded. Those who argue them, such as the Obama campaign, because they know the truth to be irrefutable end up rendering themselves silly...

She has administrated a household, the PTA, the City Council, and got so good at it others encouraged her to run a city, and then a state. That's more executive experience than Obama, Hillary, and Biden combined.

View Article  The story that just will not die: Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin's daughter, is currently pregnant

17 year old Bristol Palin, on right.

The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

CC Sabathia pitched a one-hitter in his latest dominating start, allowing the Pirates only an infield single by Andy LaRoche in the fifth inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat Pittsburgh 7-0 Sunday for their eighth victory in nine games.

Sabathia (9-0) pitched the majors' fourth one-hitter this season and couldn't have come much closer to a no-hitter, with no Pirates batter except for LaRoche coming close to a hit.

DailyKOS retracted their own smear and posted the above picture as evidence of their 'mistake.' And no, I'm not linking to their 'retraction' because they aren't going to get one more parcel of traffic from me over their lying, slandering and an attack on a baby and a 16 year old girl. I still think Sarah Palin should sue these cretins and yes if I were Todd Palin I would want to beat these little freaks with a baseball bat. -Riley

View Article  Gustav weakens to Category 2 as it nears La. coast

A weakened Hurricane Gustav closed in on flood-prone coastal Louisiana Monday, bringing punishing wind and sheets of rain. But the storm veered away from New Orleans, where only a few holdouts and those that refused to abandon Bourbon Street remained.

Gusts snapped large branches from the majestic oak trees that form a canopy over St. Charles Avenue. Tens of thousands were without power in New Orleans and other low-lying parishes, but officials in said backup generators were keeping city drainage pumps in service.
