View Article  Tax cheats and broken promises

After just two weeks in office, the Obama administration is having a hard time living up to the Obama campaign's mantra of change for the better. Unless, of course, "better" is defined as an administration made up of a handful of tax cheats and broken promises...From a policy perspective, several countries have voiced concerns about the protectionist aspects of Obama's "stimulus" bill currently making its way through the US Senate. Meanwhile, even left-leaning France has rejected an Obama-style spending binge.

What is more troubling to many, is that at a time when the United States is saddled with unprecedented levels of peacetime (at least officially, as Congress has not declared war) debt, Obama chose outright tax cheat Timothy F. Geithner to be Treasury Secretary.

Yet, evading taxes appears to being de rigeur for the Obama team

View Article  Ethics problems continue

A seemingly innocuous letter sent to the Clerk of the House of Representatives last Thursday by President Obama's Secretary of Labor nominee Hilda Solis raises serious and troubling legal questions about her nomination and apparent violation of House ethics rules. Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.

Reuters reports that Pelosi and Feinstein's fellow genius from the once great state of California warned, "We are not sitting back and waiting for some magic moment. We're ready to go."

Boxer shepherded carbon-capping legislation to the Senate floor last year, the most progress any climate change bill has made in the U.S. Congress. That bill won 48 votes, with 36 opposed, but died after a procedural maneuver by opponents.

That sound? That's the sound of the Democrat party flushing what was left of a once great country straight down the john... -Roland

View Article  Think Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were a politicized financial disaster? Just wait until pension funds implode

Funds worth trillions of dollars start to plummet in value. Political pressure to be “socially responsible” distorts the market decisions of government-related enterprises, leading to risky investments. Investors who once considered their retirements safely protectedwake up to a sinking feeling of uncertainty and gloom.

Sound like the great mortgage-fueled financial crisis of 2008? Sure. But it also describes a calamity likely to hit as soon as 2009. State, local, and private pension plans covering millions of government employees and union workers with “defined benefit” accounts are teetering on the brink of implosion, victims of both a sinking stock market and investment strategies influenced by political considerations.
